FAQs
Do I need to be able to sing or play an instrument? No, but you should feel comfortable interacting with music in some sort of way and with me singing and playing an instrument.
Will I learn to sing or play an instrument? This depends on the class or session you choose as well as the goals and process used to achieve that goal, but often even without the intention of learning to sing or play an instrument, you will gain confidence and pride.
Will you travel to XYZ? Do you work on the weekends? Every session, lesson and class will depend on the location and targeted day and time. While I’m thrilled to be growing my practice, I am also thrilled to continue being available to my young family when they are not in school.
Who can participate? Inclusive Class Policy Everyone is treated with kindness and respect. We welcome every person, of every race, gender, background, and ability. It is the responsibility of every adult to support every child in this setting through your words and actions.
I welcome you to feel safe disclosing any unique situations so I can support you best in our classes.
Should you find a class with a differing age-range more suitable for your child, please join what you feel is a good fit or reach out to discuss.
Should you wish to send your child with their nanny, grandparent, or another loving caregiver, they are welcome!
Is every offering at Reflections considered Music Therapy? While classes and lessons are facilitated by a licensed board-certified music therapist, they are not meant as a substitute for mental health or rehabilitative therapeutic services.
What does it mean to participate in group classes with other families? We ask you to maintain the privacy of all other participants in the class. Your participation is voluntary and by joining you give permission for yourself and family members to attend at the disclosed location, interact with others, and interact with instruments. You understand a risk of injury may occur and do not hold Reflections Music Therapy responsible for any accident, illness, or injury that may occur during or as a result of any program.
What happens if I am absent from a class? Your Registration Form will indicate if a Make-Up class is built in at the end of the session. If you are absent for more than 1 class, there is 1 Make-Up class provided at the end of the session unless specified differently on the registration.
Where are classes held? Silver Spring, MD near Capitol View-Homewood Park. The address will be sent following registration. There are sets of stairs leading up to the front door as well as steps down to the family room where we will hold class. The floors are covered with area rugs. This is a pet-friendly home but there will be no pets present during the class (but pet hair may be present!). On mild weather days, it is possible to meet outside.
What is the Cancellation and Illness Policy? In the event that not enough participants register by the start date, a full refund will be issued to paid participants and the class will be canceled. In the event that you want to drop the class after registering, a full refund is available up to one week prior to the first class of that session. A 50% refund is available during the first week of the session before the first class. After that, no refund is available as the spot has been reserved for you and is unavailable to anyone else once the class has started. This keeps the class sustainable for the planning and commitment that goes into it.
What happens if the facilitator is sick? In the event that I cancel due to my own illness:
a) A rescheduled class will occur following the series at the same time and location unless otherwise noted.
b) I reserve the ability to move a maximum of 1 class within a series to be offered virtually in place of canceling, if necessary, to prioritize the health of participants.
Participants must check their emails the morning of class. If I were to cancel due to illness or weather I will do so by 9am that day (but will try to anticipate sooner if possible). If a long-term illness or unexpected events were to occur that I am unable to carry out the planned classes, refunds for the canceled classes will be issued.
I’m not feeling well, should I come? There is a built-in make up class for just that reason. I ask you to follow all CDC guidelines for Covid in real time. Additionally, I ask that everyone come feeling at their healthiest and use your best judgment based on viruses circulating in your family. I’m happy to include your virtually (GoogleMeet) should you be unable to attend. Please do not sign up for music group class if you are uncomfortable with being indoors.
How long are classes? A class series varies but is generally 8-10 weeks. Classes are 40 minutes, plus 5 minutes for arrival and greeting, and 15 minutes for run over and packing up. Families are encouraged to converse and connect throughout.
