Music is both a powerful tool for self-reflection and a universal language that connects people through shared experiences and strengthens a sense of community.
Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to facilitate growth & improve quality of life for any responsive individual.
Sarah King, LPMT, MT-BC will meet a person where they are by tapping into musical preferences and strengths to create a supportive, success-oriented space that is conducive to making gains in goal areas, whether it be cognitive, social, emotional, physical, or communication.
A person’s body has a physical response to music as it activates every part of the brain: it reduces blood pressure and regulates heartbeat, boosts antibodies, reduces anxiety, decreases pain, enhances decision-making and planning, enhances arousal, reduces cortisol, increases dopamine, improves memory and cognitive function, triggers comprehension of written and spoken language, activates speech production, coordinates body movement, triggers the amygdala the part of the brain that interprets emotions, and enables the left and right hemisphere to communicate
